Botanic Inns is committed to giving back to our local community

Our Charity partner is Macmillan Cancer Support – an organisation which our employees feel very strongly about. To date we have raised a fantastic total of £57,000 for this worthy cause. Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by Cancer. With our help, they provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.

But our fundraising isn’t just on company time; some employees have been known to give up their holidays and personal time for charity. To name a few examples; Parador manager, Peter Murray and his daughters Marieclaire (who works in Botanic Inns finance dept.) and Alice (who works in the King’s Head) took part in a grueling bike ride across Chile and Argentina for Mencap. HR Manager, Dominic McGeown opened his home to two children from Chernobyl over the summer to give them a much needed break. A charity dinner was held in memory of former King’s Head manager, Liz Hamill to mark the anniversary of her death and to raise funds for Marie Curie and Macmillan.

Employees participated in the ‘Leap for Love’ Valentine’s Day abseil, which involved them raising money for people with learning disabilities by abseiling down the Europa hotel in Belfast. A relay team from the Bot has entered Belfast Marathon in order to raise funds for Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke Association. We’ve shown that we’re not afraid to get our hands dirty either, participating in weekend clean ups at a local special needs school.

We are active members of Business in the Community; in fact our Managing Director is on the board of directors. BitC is a unique movement of successful businesses signed up to responsible business practice regarding the environment, local community and in the workplace. Through BitC our employees volunteer for causes such as Time to Read and ProHelp.

The Time to Read programme involves employees giving up an hour each week to help 8-10 year olds with their reading. ProHelp firms support local community groups and voluntary organisations with free professional advice and expertise. Through this scheme, Botanic Inns is partnered with Music Theatre 4 Youth, a local organisation that encourages the development of musical theatre talent and helps in the personal and social development of young people.
