Zipline Across The Line

01 July 2008

On 21st June 130 brave participants, made up of staff and suppliers of Botanic Inns and members of the public, braved less than ideal conditions to take part in a zipline across the Lagan in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.

Even though the weather was determined not to let up this did not dampen the mood or the day.  The brave participants leapt from a 160 foot crane and reached speeds of up to 40mph as they flew across the river.

Spectators enjoyed the music from the live band while the action took place and even kids got involved with the face painting and balloon modelling. Once it was all over, everyone headed to McHughs for a well deserved free pint.

An amazing £32,000 was raised on the day!  As the entire event was sponsored by Botanic Inns, every penny of this money will be used to support local cancer patients at the Macmillan Support and Information Centre on the Lisburn Road.

With one in three people being diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, the need for Macmillan’s services is vital.  We are all affected by cancer and we can all do something to help.

Laura Johnston from Macmillan said ‘This is an amazing achievement and we are grateful for everyone who took part.  A very big thank you must go to Botanic Inns as their generosity means that all the money raised will support local cancer patients.  We could not have reached as many people without the help of Botanic Inns staff and everyone at Macmillan is grateful for their unwavering support’.

A huge thanks to all staff and suppliers who supported this terrific event and worthy cause and congratulations on the huge amount of money raised!
