The King's Head plays host to Peter Corry's New Play
16 June 2009
The King’s Head, part of the award winning Botanic Inns group, is delighted to announce that it will be hosting the Broadway hit comedy musical ‘I love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’ in the Live Lounge from 6th – 10th July 2009 with actress Nuala McKeever heading up the cast.
Directed by Peter Corry in this intimate setting, the show is the second longest running Broadway musical and details the journey from dating and waiting for "that phone call", to lovers and marriage. The production is a musical celebration of the mating game as the play takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as "the relationship".
Looking forward to the production, Manager of the King’s Head John Leydon said “This is a fantastic opportunity for audiences to experience a smash hit musical comedy, which audiences from 400 cities around the world have all enjoyed. We are delighted to be supporting Peter Corry as he directs an impressive cast in bringing Joe DiPietro's lyrics and Jimmy Roberts' tunes to life in scenes many of us have played ourselves in our dating past and marital present.”
‘I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change’ is a hilarious musical which pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, "What are you doing Saturday night?" The play's tagline is "Everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit."
Speaking about the production Director and Producer Peter Corry said “I am very excited about producing this musical in such a relaxed, unique venue. There is real dynamism amongst the cast and they represent the different personalities within the play superbly. I’ve no doubt they’ll entertain Northern Ireland audiences like the thousands of other theatre goers who have already enjoyed the musical so much.”
The cast includes some of Northern Ireland’s best known actors as well as new and upcoming talent including Nuala McKeever, Kelly Brown, Karen Hawthorne, Gerry McBrien, Kerry Rooney and Raymond Walsh.
The production runs at The Live Lounge of the Kings Head, Belfast from Monday 6th to Friday 10th July 2009 at 8.00pm. Tickets are priced £10 and are available from the King’s Head on 90509950.

First Macmillan Firewalk in Belfast raises over 13,000
01 June 2009
Macmillan Cancer Support held their first firewalk in Belfast on Saturday 6 June 2009, in Custom House Square.
The night was a huge success, with 72 walkers braving the 3,000 degree Fahrenheit walk, which was sponsored by Botanic Inns.
The night was also supported by local fire display team 'Firepoise' who complimented the event with fire displays and flame-throwing to music.
The event pulled a huge crowd of onlookers on the night, surrounding the whole of Custom House Square. The event raised an overall total of around £16,658 and was supported by many local companies including Botanic Inns, Bombardier, Bon Marche stores and local Citybeat radio DJ ‘Robin Elliott’ also rolled his trousers up for the occasion!
Emma Rea, local Fundraising Manager commented: 'This was the first ever Macmillan firewalk held in Belfast and it turned out to be a brilliant event. We got so much support on the night and everyone involved was left asking, when can do it again?
'We have raised a fantastic amount of money which will be used to provide local Macmillan services throughout the Belfast area. The money will also be used to help fund Macmillan's Support and Information Centre based at Belfast City Hospital. This centre is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and includes a state of the art hairdressing and wig-fitting salon, complementary therapies and much more.'
